General Questions

  • 1) It says that "the Lord showed no regard for Cain and his offering" Genesis 4.5 The Lord favored Abel over Cain, thus leading Cain to his destruction. So are we to assume that Cain's life was preplanned for failure?...as some sort of example of what should not be? It sounds like a setup....I'm having difficulty comprehending otherwise.  - Taal

  • 2) Can some start a topic about the history of our church?  - Liju Moolayil

General Answers

  • 1) The verse that you quote does not point to a sort of predestination of God. God favored the gifts of Abel not because he's showing favoritism, but He looked into the heart of each. It's not the outside gift that counts but our inside. It says in Psalms 51, "the sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken and contrite heart".

He doesn't look at the 'outsides' of their offerings but the inside. The sinful nature of Adam continued with Cain and his offering. This means that Cain did not make an offering to God with a giving and sincere heart. This is why God "showed no regard for Cain and his offering". He knows so much more than just the outsides.

Hope this helps, Taal. Great question! - Anonymous

  • 2) Yes, we're working on it. - DZV
