Rev. Fr. Alias Aramath is the son of the late Mathai and Kunjamma Aramath, residing in Puthencruz, Ernakulam District.  Though his parents were married for over twenty years, they did not have any children.  Through the prayers and blessing of the late Patriarch Ignatius Elias III, Mrs. Kunjamma was blessed with a son, Fr. Alias, at the age of 39.  Thus, her first child was named in honor of this saint.

Fr. Alias was born on February 11, 1948.  After graduation from high school, he was ordained as a deacon in 1966 by the late Catholicose Baselius Paulose II, who was a bishop at the time.  He then went to complete his B.A. degree in Education and also his training and bachelor’s degree in Theology.  He joined as a teacher in Malayalam starting in 1975 at R.M. High School in Vadavucode.  During this time, he married Elizabeth, the daughter of late Very Rev. Fr. GeeVarghese Thuruthel (Chalapuram) and Mrs. Aleyamma on the second month of 1976. In May of the same year, he was ordained as a priest by the late Catholicose Baselius Paulose II.

During his time in India, he worked as a priest in several churches in the Kadanadu Diocese, which includes St. Mary’s Poothruka, St. Mary’s Varikoly, St. George Pacode, St. George Kunnapally, and St. George Malucruz Darya.

After these ten years of service, Fr. Alias came to America in 1986.  He served as a priest in New York for St. Mary’s White Plains and St. George’s Orange, and as the vicar for St. John’s Staten Island.  In December 1991, Fr. Alias moved to Dallas to serve as the vicar of St. Ignatius.  In 1992, under the leadership of Fr. Alias and with the cooperation of 37 families, the present church was purchased in Carrollton, Texas.  With God’s blessing, this church has now grown to over one hundred families.

Fr. Alias and Elizabeth Aramath have two sons, Mathew and George, and a daughter-in-law, Ramya.
